Codification Terminology with Definitions
Codification is a niche service with specific terminology. These are some terms we use:
Bound code copy
A hard copy of a code of ordinances including the binder and tabs.
Camera-ready
The final copy of the supplement pages to be filed in the book. Sometimes abbreviated CR.
Chapter analysis
This portion at the beginning of the chapter gives the names of every section in the chapter for easy access to certain material.
Disposition list
A list documenting what materials we received and how the editor handled it. Includes the ordinance/resolution number, date of passage, general topic, and part of the code affected, if applicable.
Edit copy
The copy of a municipality’s physical code book that ALP maintains in our office.
Folio Views
Application that supports the online code. Footer The year/supplement number is listed at the bottom of the page. It indicates when the page was last changed.
History
The information in parentheses at the end of a code section that tells the source of the text in the section.
Instruction sheet
The instructions for filing the supplement pages in the existing code book.
Ordinance/Resolution
Legislative documents a municipality uses to document legal actions.
Pamphlet
A separate printing of a small piece of the code such as a single Title or Chapter.
Redline/strikeout
A mark-up version of the pages showing what was removed and what was added or changed during a particular supplement, also called “redline” or “RSO.”
Section heading
The section heading gives the number of the section and the section’s caption or name. Each section will have a section heading.
Statutory update
A review of the code against changes in state law. We make sure citations to state law are current and remove or revise any citations to state laws that have been changed. If the code has sections based directly on state law, we revise those sections when the underlying state law language changes.
Super supplement
A supplement where the customer reviews a draft before final publication. Unbound code copy A copy of the hard copy code book excluding the binder. Code pages only.
