First and foremost, codification is a process.
When we codify ordinances we systemically arrange them. We codify local legislation by subject matter, progressing from general principles to specific applications. By providing a thorough legal review to our clients, we help municipalities remove repealed or obsolete laws and edit the remaining ones for proper grammar, consistency, and clarity.
We codify the material into user-friendly, easy-to-find titles, chapters, and sections using the ALP standard format. The ALP standard format is our default formatting style. We have over 90 years of codification experience working to create codes of ordinances that are easy to keep up to date. The American Legal Publishing format reflects that experience by being a flexible, expandable, and adaptable format that reduces labor in future edits. Reducing labor reduces the costs of codifying for local governments.
After we codify, our client is left with a single, unified body of current, enforceable law called a "Code of Ordinances". We deliver this code in print books, in digital on USB, or publish it online in the eCodeALP online library. Later, we will supplement the code with new ordinances according to the client's needs.
